ABOUT DAVID

While serving as an English teacher in the Peace Corps in Thailand in the early 60’s, David decided to obtain a Master’s degree in Social Work as his next step. Upon his return from Thailand, he attended the University of Michigan School of Social Work, earning his MSW in 1967.

Upon graduating with his MSW, David accepted a position as Social Worker at Gallaudet
University, the national college for the deaf, in Washington, DC. This began a 35 year career in education of the deaf. After a few years as a social worker, David moved into administration at the Kendall School for the Deaf at Gallaudet, and worked in various administrative positions at Gallaudet for many years. Along the way, he earned a Ph. D. in educational sociology at the American University in Washington, DC. In 1986, he was appointed Superintendent of the Michigan School for the Deaf and in 1990, President of St. Mary’s School for the Deaf in Buffalo, NY, a position from which he retired in August, 2001.

After retirement, David and his wife bought a motor home and traveled much of the country for a few years, eventually finding that Tucson, AZ kept “inviting” them back, so they have now made Tucson their home. David has taken up woodcarving, which was initially a retirement hobby, and has now become a creative passion. Some of his carvings are displayed on another page on this website. Commissions are accepted and some of his carvings are for sale. David has also been involved with chapters of the Barbershop Harmony Society for over thirty years.

Upon deciding that total retirement was not for him, David decided to obtain certification as a coach, and attended the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara, CA to obtain his coaching certification. His many professional and life experiences have well prepared him to enhance the professional and personal success of his clients; thus the name of his company: Success Plus Coaching.
