One of the great joys of my life at this
stage is my woodcarving. I began woodcarving about three and a half years
ago after we came to Arizona, and have found an outlet for creativity
which has not previously been evident in my life. I have progressed from
carving from pre-cut blanks to designing and carving some of my own
pieces. It is a joy to discover a creative bent I never knew existed. I
think that the freedom which comes with retirement from one’s primary
career helps to free this up. I know many retirees who have found an
artistic outlet later in life. A few of my carvings appear below. Most
have been given to family and friends; a few are available for purchase.
